International Scouts Day

International Scouts DayOn Saturday March 29, 2008 the scouts of Homenetmen Glendale “Ararat” Chapter hosted the Annual International Scouts Day at Honolulu Park, "Celebrating 90 plus Years of Scouting". The countries which were represented on Saturday were Armenia, Lithuania, Hungary and Poland. Each year, a different country volunteers to host the event. This year, Arto Kazarians, Taline Khechoomian, and their committee took the lead in putting this event together.

The day started with an opening ceremony honoring the countries first by singing the American National Anthem followed by the Armenian, Hungarian, Polish and Lithuanian National Anthems. Once the flags were hoisted, the day had officially begun. The scouts were then divided into groups and sent off to their first set of activities. The program was composed of many fun and interesting activities. The first was Round Robin, which included activities such as the spider web, the Egg Drop, putting up a tent-blind-folded, and many other innovative and exciting stations. Following the Round Robin activities was the campfire portion of the program, which included songs and skits, presented by the different countries. Finally, once all the events were done, the scouts enjoyed a feast made up of a multitude of ethnic foods and deserts from the different countries. The scouts got an opportunity to make additional friends and observe different aspects of scouting attire, chants, and battle-cries among other countries. Ultimately, the International Scouts day was a great success and proved to be a productive program.
